RADNOR, Pa. (April 18) -- The Cabrini Cavaliers coasted to a 16-7 win over visiting FDU-Florham Wednesday afternoon in non-conference men’s lacrosse action.
The game was a Cabrini reunion of sorts, as Devils’ coach Pat Scarpello was the former head coach for the Cavaliers. Cabrini didn’t make it a pleasant homecoming.
Fueled by two first half goals from Casey Grugan, Matt McKinney (two assists) and Rich Romanelli, the 15th ranked Cavs cruised to a 9-2 halftime advantage and never looked back.
Rich Romanelli opened the scoring in the first period and the Devils (5-6) Kevin Shadiack answered back at the 9:10 mark for the games' only tie. From there, Cabrini went on a 5-0 run to break the game open.
Cabrini opened up a 14-3 lead in the second half. FDU made a late run on three straight goals from Scott Shadiack (two goals), Jim Baker and Jason Koontz to cut the lead to 14-6 with 5:18 remaining. But the Cavs’ McKinney collected his third goal of the game to end the rally with 3:05 to play.
Kevin Shadiack scored two goals and added two assists for the Devils while Spencer Driggs added a solo tally. FDU keeper Ryan McAllister turned away 14 Cabrini shots.
Romanelli finished the day with three goals and two assists. Other multiple goal scorers for the Cavaliers were Scott Reimer (two goals, one assist), McKinney (three goals, one assist), B.J. Kletcheck (three goals) and Casey Grugan (two goals, two assists).
Dan DeRosa, Pat Jenkins (one assist), and Chris Barron also collected goals for the Cavaliers. Kevin Quinn turned away 9 Devil shots to earn the win in goal.
The Cavaliers (10-2, 5-0 in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference) return to action Saturday night when they host Montclair State University at 7 p.m. in their final regular season home game.
