RADNOR, Pa. (January 5) – With three players in double-figures, the Cabrini College men’s basketball team handed Rowan University just its second loss of the season this afternoon with a 78-72 victory.  The Cavaliers, who fought back from a double-digit deficit, improve to 5-6 while the Profs drop to 9-2.

Freshman Glenn Washington led the team with 19 points, including four three-point field goals, and added five rebounds.  Senior Randy Reid added 18 points and a team-best seven rebounds while two players dished our four assists.

"I am very, very pleased with our team's performance," Cabrini head coach Greg Herenda said.  "Our kids clamped down and played tremendous defense in second half.  That really propelled us to the win."

Rowan turned the ball over 20 times and recorded just four steals.

The Cavaliers held a 33-31 advantage on the boards and registered 15 assists.

Rowan took its first double-digit lead (18-7) off a lay-up from Billy Care with 13:08 remaining in the opening half before scoring four unanswered to take its largest lead of the game.

With just over five minutes left in the half, the Cavaliers cut into the Profs’ lead, getting to within three off a lay-up from senior Greg Clifton but Rowan responded with a 12-5 run to go back in front by 10 points.

Rowan’s Aaron Spellman’s three-point basket at the buzzer gave the Profs a 45-33 lead at the break.

"We are starting to establish ourselves in our home building.  It feels good to play well at home and we need to continue to do that as we get into conference play."

In the second half, Cabrini knotted the score at 49 with a three-pointer from Washington at the 14:40 mark and less than a minute later, Washington again connected from beyond the arc give the Cavaliers their first lead since the opening minute of the contest.

Cabrini twice built a nine-point lead and the Profs would get no closer than two before Cabrini earned the non-conference win.

"I love our team balance.  We played 13 of our 14 players and I think that our depth really helped us in the second half."
