Softball Wins One of Two Against Cedar Crest

RADNOR, Pa. (April 12) – Freshman Susan Schmidt hit a solo home run in the second game but it wasn’t enough as the Cabrini College softball team split today’s double-header with Cedar Crest College.  The Cavaliers captured the first game 2-1 before falling in the second by the same score.  Cabrini’s record now stands at 11-18, 8-6 in the PAC while the Falcons remain even at 12-17, 7-7 in the conference. 
 
In the first game, junior Rachel Davis earned the complete game win, allowing just three hits and one run in 7.0 innings of work while striking out six.
 
The Cavaliers tallied seven hits, one each from seven different players, and Schmidt and Davis each tallied one RBI. 
 
Cabrini built a 1-0 lead in the third when Schmidt’s single sent sophomore Mary Kate Smith home from third base.  In the fourth frame, Cedar Crest knotted the score at one with a solo home run to center field by Sarah Campbell.
 
In the bottom of the fourth, the Cavaliers scored the final run of the contest when a double from Davis plated sophomore Cheri Johns
 
For the visitors, Allison Holland took the loss with seven hits and two runs.
 
In the second game, the Falcons took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and went in front by two in the top of sixth.  Schmidt opened the frame for Cabrini, knocking the ball out of the park on the first pitch, but the Cavaliers would not score again.
 
Johns took the loss, throwing 7.0 innings and allowing nine hits.  Holland earned the win with five strikeouts and five hits.
 
Cabrini hosts Muhlenberg College on Tuesday, April 15 at 3:30 p.m.
