Softball Wins One in Non-Conference Double-Header

RADNOR, Pa. (April 15) – Senior Brittany Caprice and sophomore Kristy Sandefur both tallied one hit and two RBI’s against Muhlenberg College in the second game of today’s double-header as the Cavaliers and Mules split action.  Muhlenberg (6-22) won the first game 13-5 before the Cavaliers (12-19) took game two by a 6-5 margin.
 
After falling behind 5-2 in the second contest, Cabrini came from behind with four scores in the bottom of the sixth inning to claim the win.  After a walk and four straight singles, the Cavaliers added two runs and Sandefur’s double sent two more Cabrini players to home plate.
 
Sophomore Lindsey Runyen finished 2-of-3 at the plate and scored two wins in the victory.
 
Sophomore Cheri Johns took the win, throwing all seven innings and striking out two. 
 
In the first game, Muhlenberg held a 6-0 lead after four complete innings of play before the Cavaliers got on the scoreboard with one score in the bottom of the fifth.  The Mules used three-runs in the top of the sixth to build a 9-0 lead but Cabrini responded with four runs of their own in the bottom of the frame.
 
Following back-to-back doubles from Johns and junior Melissa Benedetti, the second of which scored one run, freshman Mary Kate doubled to plate two more Cabrini runners.  Freshman Susan Schmidt singled to add one more run to the Cavaliers total, getting Cabrini within four (9-5).
 
Muhlenberg set the final margin with four more scores in the final frame to earn the win.
 
Junior Rachel Davis spent 2.1 innings on the mound, allowing six runs, before freshman Cheyenne White threw the remaining 4.2 frames.
 
The Cavaliers host Alvernia College on Saturday, April 19 at 1 p.m.
