Women's Lacrosse Wins 15-13 Against Gwynedd-Mercy

RADNOR, Pa. (April 15) – Sophomore Erin Nollen scored a season-best eight goals to help lead the Cabrini College women’s lacrosse team to a 15-13 win over Gwynedd-Mercy College this evening.  With the win, the Cavaliers remain perfect in the conference with a 8-0 PAC mark and a 9-2 overall record while the Griffins fall to 8-5 overall, 6-2 in the conference.
 
Nollen, who scored three goals in a three and a half minute span at the end of the first half, was a perfect 2-of-2 on free position attempts and recorded two ground balls and one draw control.  Senior Katelyn Penrose and junior Amanda Alexandrowitz each registered two goals and three other players tallied one goal a piece.
 
Freshman Dolores Weathers led the Cavaliers with six ground balls and added three draw controls.
 
Cabrini held a 32-23 edge in shots but the Griffins gained possession of 17 draw controls to the Cavaliers’ 13.
 
The Griffins scored the first two goals of the contest before Cabrini went in front 3-2 with 22:53 remaining in the half.  Gwynedd took a 4-3 lead at the 21:44 mark, their final lead of the game, and the Cavaliers knotted the score at four off a score from Nollen.
 
The Cavaliers took their largest lead of the game (11-6) with 2:55 left in the first half with the final of Nollen’s three straight scores and held an 11-9 at the half.
 
In the second half, Gwynedd twice got within one score but Alexandrowitz scored both of her tallies in the final 14 minutes of the game as Cabrini held on for the win. 
 
Sophomore Kate Schmid played all 60 minutes in the net for Cabrini stopped seven shots while earning the win.
 
Caitlin Volz led Gwynedd-Mercy with three goals.
 
The Cavaliers host College of New Jersey on Thursday, April 17 at 2 p.m.
