Salisbury, Swarthmore Hand Volleyball Two Losses

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini volleyball team continued its 2008 season at the Swarthmore College Tournament Saturday, suffering two losses against Salisbury University, 3-0 and the host Garnet, 3-1.

Against Salisbury, senior Kate Conahan and freshmen Alexis Doss and Danielle Kulich each posted six kills. Junior Lizzie Williams guided the Cavaliers with a team-high 20 assists.

Defensively, seniors Lindsay Martin and Danielle Finnegan collected 17 digs apiece.

The SeaGulls claimed a narrow 26-24 win in set one before escaping with the match following 25-19 and 25-15 victories in frames two and three.

Cabrini opened its match against Swarthmore with a 27-25 triumph in the opening stanza. Sophomore Stephanie Recklau led the Cavaliers against the Garnet with 12 kills and four total blocks.

Williams paced the offensive attack with 27 assists. She also added 18 digs and five kills.

Four Cavalier student-athletes tallied 11 digs or more, including Williams. Martin led the team with 21 while Finnegan and junior Traci Beltz totaled 13 and 11, respectively.

Cabrini (2-6) returns to action Sunday for day two of the Swarthmore Tournament against Clark University at 10 a.m. The Cavaliers will also play at noon against an opponent yet to be determined.
