RADNOR, Pa, -
The Cabrini field hockey team battled to a 2-1 double-overtime setback against Delaware Valley College Tuesday night, losing in a strokes shootout, 2-1. Sophomore goalkeeper Caitlin Donahue tallied a season-high 21 saves for the Cavaliers.

Cabrini's lone goal of the night came in the 63rd minute and off the stick of freshman forward Lauren Alessi. It was the rookie's team-best seventh goal of the season and it knotted the score with less than seven minutes remaining.

Delaware Valley claimed a one-goal edge at the 44:40 mark after Stephanie Dec tipped in a pass on the doorstep from Michelle Cernobyl.

Donahue, selected to the Colonial States Athletic Conference Honor Roll Monday, stood tall the rest of the way, stifling the Aggies' attack on more than one occasion from point blank. Twice in the opening extra session, she was peppered with back-to-back shots. At the conclusion of the second overtime, Donahue sticked aside a Del Val shot from five feet away.

In strokes, the Aggies one-goal lead was matched by junior Lynda Kaufmann in round two.

Del Val regained a one-score cushion in round four after Bethany Pavlik beat Donahue to the top-left corner. Amy Stafford's successful attempt in round five sealed the victory for the visitors.

The shootout session marked the field hockey program's first since the 2001 season. The Cavaliers suffered a 2-1 loss against Arcadia University.

Alessi led the Cabrini offense with three shots. Kaufmann, along with senior Melissa Benedetti and sophomore Shannon Mulhern, recorded two.

Delaware Valley goalkeeper Jackie Deschenes made three saves in the victory. The Aggies held an 18-7 advantage in penalty corners.

Cabrini (3-4) returns to the road for the first time since September 4, traveling to Swarthmore College Thursday, September 18 for a 5 p.m. start.
