Women's Tennis Tops Division II Philadelphia University, 6-3

Sophomore Stephanie Tighe claimed a 6-4, 6-1 win in singles action and an 8-5 victory with doubles partner Nicole Pontious against Philadelphia University Tuesday.

The Cabrini women's tennis team captured its second win in as many matches to start the 2008 season with a convincing 6-3 win against Division II Philadelphia University Tuesday afternoon at the Dixon Courts. The Cavaliers' win avenges a trio of 7-2 losses suffered at the hands of the Rams the last three seasons.

Cabrini opened the match with a 2-1 advantage following doubles play. Junior Nicole Pontious and sophomore Stephanie Tighe tallied an 8-5 win at the No. 2 position. Rookies Alexis DiCamillo and Michelle Lettman posted an 8-6 win at No. 3.

The senior duo of Dina DiTaranto and Christine Telling suffered a narrow 8-7 (8-1) setback at the No. 1 spot.

The Cavaliers clinched the victory in singles play behind Tighe's 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 4 and Lettman's 6-0, 6-1 triumph in the six hole. Pontious battled to a 6-1, 7-6 (8-6) win in the No. 3 position. DiCamillo earned an 8-2 win at No. 4.

Cabrini (2-0) plays its first match of the season away from home on Saturday, September 6 as part of the Moravian University Invite. The Cavaliers meet local-rival Haverford College at 9 a.m.
