RADNOR, Pa. –
Freshman forward Lauren Alessi's second goal of the game, 1:32 into overtime, propelled the Cabrini field hockey team to a 3-2 win Saturday afternoon at Edith Robb Dixon Field. Sophomore goalkeeper Caitlin Donahue recorded seven saves in the victory.

The Cavaliers jumped on the Pride, scoring two goals in the opening 11 minutes. Alessi's first score of the game came at the 6:53 mark and was set-up by junior Bridget Bergen.

Cabrini extended its lead to two scores after junior Lynda Kaufmann one-timed a crossing pass from freshman Maura Gordon at the 10:16 mark.

Widener rallied and evened the contest at 2-2 following two scores from junior Jessica Gonzalez. The Pride sliced the Cavaliers' lead in half at the 23:21 mark of the first half after Gonzalez tipped in a shot from the top of the circle from Megan Scarpinato.

Gonzalez tallied her second goal of the game at the 36:07 mark of the second half after a shot on a three-quarter field streak trickled past Donahue.

The ensuing 35 minutes played scoreless until Alessi's marker clinched the victory. The rookie sliced across the circle, left-to-right, beating Widener goalie Megan Purcell from 10-yards out.

Cabrini won the shots and penalty corner battles narrowly, 14-13 and 14-12, respectively.

Purcell stopped four shots in the loss.

Cabrini (3-1) continues a season-long four-game homestand Tuesday, September 9 against Wilkes University at 6:30 p.m.
