RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini women's lacrosse team claimed its third win in the last three games, topping Landmark Conference foe the University of Scranton Tuesday at Edith Robb Dixon Field. Junior attack Erin Nollen tallied five points on a season-best four goals and one assist in the win.
Sophomore attack Kristen Vernon recorded a season-high four points on two goals and two assists. Senior midfielder Anna Scholl totaled two points, pairing one goal with one assist.
Freshman attack Jacqueline McDermott rounded out the Cavaliers' scoring, depositing her fifth goal of the season.
Senior defender Chrissy Regan led the Blue & White with four groundballs. Junior attack Lynda Kaufmann notched a club-leading four draw controls.
Junior cage-minder Kate Schmid made her fifth straight start for the Cavaliers, stopping nine shots en route to the victory.
Vernon supplied the Cavaliers with a 1-0 lead at the 25:49 mark off a feed from Scholl. Vernon returned the favor, connecting with Scholl at the 22:26 mark, handing Cabrini a 3-1 advantage.
The Cavaliers cushion grew to four goals, 5-1, after Nollen buried a free position shot with 5:48 remaining in the first half. The Royals trimmed their deficit to three goals, 5-2, on a score from sophomore Katie Slade with 54 ticks left on the clock.
Nollen's third goal of the game pushed the Cabrini lead back to four goals, 6-2, at the 25:58 mark of the second half. However, Scranton scored three of the game's next four goals, pulling to within 7-5 with 11:30 remaining. Freshman Kaela Mahon capped the spurt with two unassisted tallies.
The Blue & White reasserted a three-goal edge, 8-5, after McDermott's marker at the 8:57 mark. Senior Diana Rocklein scored the Royals' next two goals, including one with 25 seconds remaining. But Scranton's rally proved to be too little, too late.
Rocklein led the Royals' offense, tallying three points on two goals and one assist. Mahon added two points on her two second-half goals.
Junior goalkeeper Cassie Murphy posted 10 saves in the loss.
Cabrini (3-2, 2-0) resumes its Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) schedule Wednesday, March 25 at home against Marywood University. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
