SCRANTON, Pa. –
The Cabrini women's lacrosse team captured its first win of the 2010 season Thursday afternoon, out-lasting Landmark Conference opponent the University of Scranton, 13-12, at Fitzpatrick Field. Junior attack Jamie O'Hanlon's goal with 2:38 remaining in the second half broke a 12-12 tie and proved to be the game-winning tally.

Senior attack Amanda Alexandrowicz powered the Cavaliers' offense with a career-high nine points on eight goals and one assist. Alexandrowicz scored six of Cabrini's eight goals in the first half.

Alexandrowicz is nearing the 200-point plateau for her career, needing just 14 points to meet the scoring milestone. She would join fellow senior Erin Nollen as the only other Cavalier to accomplish the feat. Nollen owns 224 career points on 174 goals and 50 assists.

O'Hanlon finished the game with three points on three goals. Senior attack Danielle Rothermel also tallied three points, pairing two scores with one helper.

Nollen and senior midfielder Kellie Levy each recorded one point on one assist.

Senior goalkeeper Kate Schmid made the start in goal for the Cavaliers and posted 18 stops in 60 minutes played. The Lady Royals' offense attempted 16 total free-position shots, but converted only five for scores against Schmid.

The Blue & White raced to an 8-6 advantage at halftime behind the play from Alexandrowicz. Alexandrowicz's third goal of the game at the 12:48 mark of the opening period provided the Cavaliers with a 4-1 advantage. She scored three unanswered goals in a 61-second stretch to end the first half.

Cabrini thrice owned three-goal advantages in the opening six minutes of the second half following a goal from Rothermel (25:42) and two from Alexandrowicz (20:53, 19:38). O'Hanlon's second marker of the contest with 17:08 remaining supplied the Cavaliers with a game-high four-goal cushion, 12-8.

However, Scranton responded with four straight goals over the ensuing 10:20, tying the game at 12-12 with 5:46 left on the clock. Kaela Mahon netted the game's equalizer on a free-position shot.

Less than three minutes following, O'Hanlon put the Blue & White ahead for good and broke the 12-12 stalemate off a feed from Nollen.

Deanna Giorno led the Lady Royals' offense with five points on four goals and one assist. Leslie Connelly tallied three points with three goals.

Kathleen Smart and Cassie Murphy split time in between the pipes for Scranton, each logging 30 minutes. Smart posted seven saves and Murphy notched five stops.

Cabrini (1-1) will play its third game in six days and begin its 2010 regular season home schedule Saturday, March 13 against Centennial Conference foe Dickinson College.
