IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Cabrini women's lacrosse team started the defense of its Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) title in emphatic fashion Tuesday afternoon, rolling to a 17-5 win at Immaculata University. Senior attack Amanda Alexandrowicz powered the Cavaliers' offense with a team-high five points in the victory.
Alexandrowicz scored four goals and added one assist against the Mighty Macs. She leads the team through three games with 17 points on 15 goals and two assists. Alexandrowicz needs nine points to reach the 200-point plateau for her career.
Senior attack Danielle Rothermel tallied three points on three goals. Sophomore attack Jacky McDermott chipped in three points, handing out three helpers.
Nine members of the Blue & White recorded at least one point, including two points each from senior attack Erin Nollen (2G), junior attack Gabrielle Gorbey (1G, 1A), junior attack Jamie O'Hanlon (2G), sophomore midfielder Kristen Vernon (2G) and freshman attack Christina Pasquariello (2G).
The Cavaliers seized control of the game at midfield, winning 18 draws against just six from the Mighty Macs. Alexandrowicz led the Cabrini charge with five draw controls. Alexandrowicz and Pasquariello each scooped three groundballs.
Senior goalkeeper Kate Schmid started for the Cavaliers in goal, playing 30 minutes and notching five saves. Junior cageminder Gianna Porretta logged 30 minutes in the second half and recorded four stops.
The Blue & White raced out of the gates and stormed to a 10-0 advantage less than 17 minutes after the opening whistle. Alexandrowicz keyed the stretch with three goals and one assist. Four of Cabrini's first 10 scores came off free-position shots.
After Immaculata got on the board at the 12:01 mark of the first half, the Cavaliers closed the period with three goals, including the first career scores for Gorbey and Pasquariello.
The Mighty Macs narrowed the gap to 13-3 with 13:44 remaining in the second stanza. However, Cabrini answered with four unanswered goals.
Kacie O'Neill led the Immaculata attack with four points on three goals and one assist. Rebecca Whiteman totaled two points with one goal and one helper.
The win is the Cavaliers second straight this season and third consecutive versus CSAC opponents dating back to the 2009 campaign.
Cabrini (2-1) will begin its 2010 home schedule Thursday, March 18 against No. 5 The College of New Jersey. Game time versus the Lions is set for 4 p.m.
