SCRANTON, Pa. – The Cabrini College swimming teams opened their 2011-12 season this afternoon at the University of Scranton. The men defeated FDU – Florham 53-32 but lost to the host 64-30. The ladies fell against both schools, losing to Scranton 65-29 and 56-39 to FDU – Florham.
The men were paced by freshman
Evan Strickland who notched his first collegiate victory in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:06.48. Strickland also finished third in the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.44).
Sophomore
Tim McCann finished second in the 500 yard freestyle (5:56.32) and third in the 1,000-yard freestyle (12:10.26). Senior
Walter Jesuncosky added a third place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (2:09.98). Fellow sophomore
Brandon Mazepa scored a third place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (1:08.63).
For the ladies, senior
Lauren Sliva recorded two third place finishes, in the 1,000-yard freestyle (13:17.67) and 100-yard butterfly (1:09.40). Sophomore
Rachel Schmid and freshman
Gabrielle Aiello also notched third place finishes in the 200-yard individual medley (2:39.95) and the 500-yard freestyle (7:02.46), respectively.
The Blue and White also recorded top three finishes in the 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard individual medley. Schmid, Sliva, sophomore
Elyse Phillips and freshman Rebecca Barrett combined to finish second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.49). The team of sophomore

Kimberly Crowther and freshman
Devin McKenna swam to third place in the 200-yard individual medley (2:24.57).
The Cavaliers will open the home portion of their schedule on Saturday, October 29 when they welcome Rowan University to the Dixon Center pool for a 1:00 p.m. meet.
