Haverford College Runs Past Women's Lacrosse in Season Opener

RADNOR, Pa. –
The Cabrini women's lacrosse team opened its 2011 regular schedule at Edith Robb Dixon Field on Tuesday afternoon. Centennial Conference opponent Haverford College scored seven unanswered goals to end the first half and begin the second en route to a 16-5 victory versus the Cavaliers.

Senior attack Gabrielle Gorbey and freshman attack Allie Henry each posted two points with two goals for Cabrini in the loss. Senior attack Jamie O'Hanlon also recorded two points, netting one goal and dishing one assist.

Senior defender Courtney Davis led the Cavaliers in hustle department with seven groundballs. Davis also claimed a team-best four draw controls and notched four caused turnovers.

The Fords sprinted to an 6-0 advantage just over mid-way through the first half. Senior midfielder Kayleigh Herrick-Reynolds and junior midfielder Josie Ferri each scored two goals during the early surge.

Gorbey responded with consecutive scores at the 9:29 and 7:03 marks, cutting the Cabrini deficit to four goals, 6-2. She found the back of an open cage with her first goal before rolling out in front of the Haverford cage and spinning back to convert her second.

However, Haverford (3-0) closed the first half on a 5-0 run and then scored two quick ones to begin the second half en route to a commanding 13-2 cushion with 28:08 remaining. Ferri scored two goals and added one assist during the decisive run.

Henry broke the Cavaliers' scoring silence with her first career goal at the 22:32 mark. O'Hanlon's first marker of the season, and the 106th of her career, came with 16:36 on the clock.

Henry deposited the Blue & White last goal of the contest at the 9:19 mark.

Ferri led the Fords' offense, totaling nine points with five goals and four assists. Sophomore midfielder Grace Stockbower finished with three goals. Haverford out-shot the Cavaliers for the game, 32-13.

Freshman goalkeeper Janel Folkomer earned her first collegiate start and posted seven saves in the loss for the Cavaliers. Junior Leah Hammerschlag stopped five shots in just under 38 minutes played for the Fords.

Cabrini (0-1) will plays its first of three straight games on the road on Friday, March 11 versus Centennial Conference foe Dickinson University. Game time against the Red Devils is set for 4 p.m.
