ASTON, Pa. – The Cabrini women's lacrosse team couldn't overcome a three-goal deficit at halftime and a late rally fell short in a 15-14 loss at Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opponent Neumann University on Saturday afternoon. Senior attack Jamie O'Hanlon led the Cavaliers with five points on five goals in the loss.
O'Hanlon netted three of her five goals after the intermission, including two in the final 7:08 that pulled Cabrini within two goals, 15-13, with 5:40 left.
Freshman midfielder Sarah Means' unassisted goal less than two minutes following cut Neumann's lead to one goal, 15-14. However, the Knights closed out the final 3:24 for their third CSAC win of the season.
Senior attack Gabrielle Gorbey complimented O'Hanlon on the offensive end with four points on three goals and one assist. Means recorded three points with three goals.
Senior defenders Julie Bonomo and Courtney Davis led the Cavaliers on the ground, each scooping a team-best four loose balls. O'Hanlon gathered a club-high four draw controls.
Freshman goalkeeper Janel Folkomer posted 15 saves in the loss, including nine in the first half.
Neumann (4-8, 3-3 CSAC) rallied from an early 2-0 hole and scored five unanswered goals in the first half en route to a 10-7 lead at the break. O'Hanlon's first goal of the game at the 14:15 mark of the opening period ended the Knights' 5-0 run.
NU pushed its lead to 12-8 with 22:49 remaining after consecutive goals from Alexandra Bohen. The Cavaliers trailed 13-9 at the 19:29 mark.
Means sparked the rally try with a free position goal with 16:35 on the clock, pulling Cabrini to within three goals, 13-10. Gorbey trimmed the lead to 13-11 at the 14:35 mark.
Yet, Neumann reasserted a four-goal cushion, 15-11, after a goal from Erica Crabtree with 12:56 remaining.
Bohen led all scorers with seven points on six goals and one assist. Crabtree paired three scores with one helper.
Sam Kotowski turned away 18 shots for the Knights in the win.
Cabrini (4-8, 4-2 CSAC) continues its CSAC schedule at home versus Cedar Crest College on Tuesday, April 19. Game time against the Falcons is set for 4 p.m.
