Women's Lacrosse Late Rally Halted at Widener University, 16-15

Senior Gabrielle Gorbey tallied a team-high five points with four goals and one assist at Widener University on Wednesday.

WIDENER, Pa. –
The Cabrini women's lacrosse team scored the game's final seven goals, but could not overcome a late eight-goal deficit in a 16-15 loss against non-conference opponent Widener University on Wednesday night. Senior attack Gabrielle Gorbey powered the Cavaliers attack, recording a team-best five points against the Pride.

Gorbey paired four goals with one assist in the loss. Sophomore attack Christina Pasquariello posted four points with three scores and one helper.

Senior attack Jamie O'Hanlon tallied three points with three goals. Senior midfielder Dolores Weathers and freshman attack Kellie Manoppello each notched two points, netting two goals.

Cabrini owned a 17-15 advantage versus Widener in draw controls. Manoppello led the team, gathering five draw controls. Gorbey collected four.

O'Hanlon and freshman attack Sarah Means each tallied a team-high three groundballs.

Freshman goalkeeper Janel Folkomer recorded six saves for the Blue & White in the loss.

Despite scoring the game's first two goals, the Cavaliers faced a 6-5 deficit at the intermission. Pasquariello netted two goals before the intermission, including the contest's first score.

Manoppello provided Cabrini with a 2-0 lead at the 27:00 mark. O'Hanlon's goal at 15:53 pushed the Cavaliers lead to 5-3.

However, Widener opened the second half on a 5-1 run en route to a 10-6 advantage at the 21:49 mark. After two scores from Pasquariello and Gorbey, the Pride netted six unanswered goals, securing a comfortable 16-8 cushion with 14:46 remaining.

Yet, the Cavaliers nearly overcame the eight-goal hole and forced overtime, running off seven straight and pulling within one goal, 16-15, at the 3:42 mark. O'Hanlon found the back of the cage twice during the rally, including the game's final goal.

Widener goalkeeper Linda Salcedo made 19 saves in the win, including two critical stops in the final 15 seconds to preserve the one-goal victory.

Rachel Porter led the Pride offense with nine points on six goals and three assists. Mellany Broomall tallied five points with three goals and two assists, while Calina Walz netted four scores.

Cabrini (5-8) wraps up the regular season at Edith Robb Dixon Field versus Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opponent Centenary College on Tuesday, April 26. Game time against the Cyclones is set for 4 p.m.
