SCRANTON, Pa. – The Cabrini College women's swimming team got its 2012-13 seasons off to a great start as the Blue and White team notched a dual meet win over FDU-Florham while falling to the University of Scranton today at Scranton's tri-meet. The women topped FDU-Florham 56-37, handing new coach
Cindy Ikeler her first career victory, and lost to Scranton 63-31.
While the meet was scored as three separate dual meets, all of the events included swimmers from Cabrini, FDU-Florham and Scranton.
The Cavaliers were led by junior
Courtney Good who posted her first career victory in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:08.33. The rookie also posted a time of 2:28.46 in the 200-yard individual medley to place third.
Junior
Elyse Phillips was impressive in the long distance events for the Cavaliers, finishing second in the 500-yard freestyle (6:42.22) and third in the 1,000-yard freestyle (13:37.21).
Freshman Jeanine Kohlbrecker placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:26.79), while junior
Kimberly Crowther and
Alexis Drew both finished third in 100-yard freestyle (1:09.10) and 100-yard butterfly (1:11.78), respectively.
Cabrini's relay teams also posted a pair of third place finishes. The team of Good, Kohlbecker,
Jessica Pepenella and Crowther opened the meet with a third place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, with a time of 2:13.40.
Maryellen Jerram,
Lauren Ciccariello, Phillips and
Alexis Drew joined forces to post a time of 2:03.95 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
The Cavaliers will open the home portion of their schedule on Saturday, October 27 when they welcome Hood College and Pitt-Bradford to the Dixon Center Pool for a tri-meet. The first event is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
