RADNOR, Pa.
– The Cabrini College women's lacrosse team got off to a great start with today's 15-9 win over Notre Dame (Md.) at Edith Robb Dixon Field.  After a sluggish first 24 minutes, the Cavaliers found their stride, scoring five unanswered goals.

Sophomore Sarah Means led the Blue and White charge with four goals. Cabrini's quartet of Kellie Manoppello, Lacie Doubet, Ali May and Christina Pasquariello tallied two goals each.

Freshman Melissa Scanzano scored the Cavaliers' first goal of 2012, an unassisted tally just 2:34 into the game. After the Gators converted a free position shot, Cabrini returned the favor when Means retook the lead with a free position shot at the 18:51 mark.  Notre Dame (Md.) again evened the score just 34 seconds later.

May netted the first of her two scores at the 13:49 mark, regaining a 3-2 lead for the Cavaliers.   Consecutive Gator goals put Cabrini in a 4-3 hole with 6:38 left in the first half.  The goal forced head coach Jackie Neary to call a time out to refocus her squad.

The Blue and White responded with a flurry to close out the half.  Cabrini posted five goals in the final 5:36 of the half, including both of Manoppello's tallies in less than a 60 second span.  At the break, Cabrini held a commanding 8-4 lead.

The Cavaliers didn't slow after the break.  Means found freshman Sara Carzo 69 seconds into the second stanza for Carzo's first collegiate goal.  Notre Dame (Md.) cut the lead to 9-5 at eh 28:07 mark before Cabrini went on another offensive spurt.

Over the next five minutes, the Blue and White outscored the Gators 5-0, highlighted by both Pasquariello goals and a goal and assist from senior Jacky McDermott.  With just over14 minutes to play, Cabrini was firmly in charge of the game.

Sophomore goaltender Janel Folkomer anchored the Cavaliers' defensive effort with 10 saves.   Carzo and May caused three turnovers each.  May also secured a game-high four ground balls, while Means and sophomore Beatrice McQuiston scooped three each.

Junior Allison Terry led the Gators (0-3, 0-1 CSAC) with four goals.

The Cavaliers will welcome Ursinus College to Edith Robb Dixon Field on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
