GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Cabrini College women's lacrosse season came to an end today, as the Cavaliers fell at #3 Gettysburg 22-7. The loss was the Blue and White's first since April 3 and dropped Cabrini to 10-9 on the year.
Freshman
Melissa Scanzano led the Blue and White with three goals.
Gettysburg, the defending NCAA champions jumped out early, scoring six goals in the game's first nine minutes. Just over 10 minutes into play, Scanzano opened Cabrini's scoring with her 36th tally of the season.
Trailing 8-1 with 13:12 to play before halftime, Scanzano again found the back of the net.
Carzo's 27th goal of the year came with 6:25 to play before halftime, cutting Cabrini's deficit to 13-3. Less than 30 seconds later, senior
Jacky McDermott tallied the final of her 62 career goals.
Senior
Katie Slonaker's free-position shot with 48 seconds to play in the first half cut Gettysburg's advantage to 15-5. The Bullets added a late goal, taking a 16-5 lead into the half.
Sophomore
Sarah Means opened the second half with her 31st goal of the year.
Scanzano closed the Blue and White's scoring with her third score of the day with just over 20 minutes to play.
Scanzano also led the Cavaliers with six draw controls, while sophomores
Ali May and Suzanne Gennaro each forced a pair of turnovers. Sophomore goaltender
Janel Folkomer recorded seven saves n the loss.
Head Coach
Jackie Neary and the Cavaliers completed another successful season, winning their 11th Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) title. The program also won its 200th game all-time earlier in the year.
