SCRANTON, Pa. – The Cabrini swim teams got off to a great start to their 2013-14 seasons today, splitting a tri-meet at the University of Scranton. The Cavaliers women topped FDU-The College at Florham 70-18 and fell to Scranton 76-19. The Blue and White men earned a 58-37 victory over FDU and lost to Scranton 80-15.
Freshman
Christina Melchiorre led the women with victories in the 100 and 200 yard freestyles. The freshman's time of 2:03.03 in the 200 free cut over two seconds from the previous school record.
Senior
Courtney Good posted third place finishes in the 200 yard Individual Medley and the 100 yard back stroke. Senior
Elyse Phillips recorded a third place finish in the 1,000 yard freestyle, while
Allie Stein and
Meagan Kalinoski added third place finishes in the 500 yard freestyle and 100 yard breast stroke, respectively.
On the men's side, freshman
Hassan David Goines Jr. paired his first career victory in the 200 yard Individual Medley with a third place finish in the 100 yard breaststroke. Fellow rookie
Todd Walker opened his career with a second place finish in the 100 yard butterfly and a third place in the 200 yard freestyle.
Sophomore
Chris Ryan also scored third place finishes in the 50 and 500 yard freestyle events. Senior
Tim McCann and junior
Nick Platt recorded third place finishes in the 1,000 yard freestyle and 100 yard back stroke, respectively.
The Blue and White will return to the pool next Saturday when they travel to Pitt-Bradford for an Allegheny Mountain collegiate Conference meet. The first event is slated for 1:00 p.m.
