Swimming Teams Stumble in Home Opener

RADNOR, Pa. –
After opening the season with a pair of road meets, the Cabrini swim teams opened the home portion of their schedule with a visit from the Rowan University Profs.  The Blue and White women fell to 2-2 on the season with a 109-71, while the men dropped to 1-3 after losing 101-45.

Freshman Christina Melchiorre led the Cavaliers with a pair of second place finishes on the night.  The rookie set a new school record in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 55.73 and posted a 25.55 in the 50 yard freestyle.  

Senior Breaghann Smith also tallied a pair of second place finishes in the 200 yard individual medley (2:42.70) and the 500 yard freestyle (5:56.94).  Freshman Annie Shaffer added a pair of second place finishes in the 200 yard freestyle (2:29.13) and 100 yard back stroke (1:20.12).

Fellow senior Courtney Good placed second in the 1,000 yard freestyle (12:28.75) and third in the 100 yard butterfly (1:09.63).  Freshman Moira Prior matched Good with a second place in the 100 yard breast stroke (1:22.40) and third place in the 200 individual medley (2:43.89).

Melchiorre teamed with fellow freshman Meagan Kalinoski and seniors Elyse Phillips and Lauren Ciccariello to earn a second place finish in the 200 yard medley relay.  Smith and Good joined freshman Allie Stein and Bella Badolato for a second place finish in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:59.33.   

Freshman Hassan David Goines Jr. led the Cabrini men with a trio of second place finishes.  The rookie recorded times of 23.03 in the 50 yard freestyle, 50.70 in the 100 yard freestyle and 1:03.89 in the 100 yard breaststroke.  

Sophomore Chris Ryan added a second place finish in the 100 yard back stroke (1:04.47) and a third place in the 50 yard freestyle (24.11).  Junior Scott Hunt placed third in both the 200 yard freestyle (2:11.0) and the 100 yard freestyle (54.79).

The Cavaliers also tallied a pair of second place finishes in the relay events.  Junior Nick Platt, senior Tim McCann and freshmen Todd Walker and Bobby Schmidt posted a time of 1:53.35 in the 200 yard medley relay.  In the 200 yard freestyle relay, Ryan, Schmidt, McCann and Platt finished with a time of 1:38.22.

The Blue and White will return to the pool on Saturday as they travel to Wilkes-Barre, Pa. to face King's College and Cedar Crest College.  The first event is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
