SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Cabrini swim teams completed the two-day Swarthmore College Invitational in fifth place after today's morning and afternoon sessions. The Blue and White continued their impressive performances from yesterday, including setting two school records.
The morning session opened with the Cabrini women recording a fourth place finish in the 200 yard medley relay. The team of junior
Morgan Griffith, freshmen
Moira Prior and
Christina Melchiorre and
Breaghann Smith teamed for a time of 2:07.90.
In the morning's individual events, senior
Courtney Good placed seventh in the 400 yard individual medley with a program record of 5:07.90, breaking the previous record by nearly four seconds. The senior also added a seventh place finish in the 100 yard back stroke.
Melchiorre scored a seventh place finish in the 200 yard freestyle in 2:07.32, while Morgan placed ninth in the 100 yard backstroke in 1:06.60.
A trio of freshmen led the Cavaliers men in the morning session. Rookie
Todd Walker's time of 57.16 in the 100 yard butterfly was good for eighth, while
Hassan David Goines Jr. placed eighth in the 100 yard breast stroke with a time of 1:06.25. Freshman
Bobby Schmidt added a ninth place finish in the 100 yard backstroke in 1:02.11
The three freshmen then joined sophomore
Chris Ryan to close the session with a third place finish in the 800 yard freestyle relay, with a time of 7:53.18.
The Cabrini men's momentum continued into the afternoon session, as Walker's time of 2:07.55 in the 200 yard backstroke was good for ninth place and broke his own school record by nearly four seconds. Walker has now taken nearly 10 seconds off the mark during this season.
Goines added an eighth place finish in the 100 yard freestyle in a time of 51.66, while senior
Tim McCann's time of 19:44.99 in the 1,650 freestyle was good for 11th. Walker, Schmidt, Ryan and Goines also teamed for a 4th place finish in the 400 yard freestyle relay, reaching the wall in 3:33.71.
On the women's side, Melchiorre posted a sixth place finish in the 100 yard freestyle in 56.19, while senior
Elyse Phillips placed sixth in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:58.67. Freshman
Meagan Kalinoski also placed 11th in the 200 yard breaststroke in 3:02.07.
A trio of Cavaliers, Smith, Phillips and freshman
Allie Stein placed in the top 11 in the 1,650 yard freestyle. Smith's time of 19:23.67 was good for third, while Phillips (21:22.93) and Stein (21:31.35) placed 10th and 11th, respectively.
Melchiorre, Griffith, Smith and Good also teamed for a fourth place finish in the 400 yard freestyle relay, posting a time of 3:59.94.
The Blue and White will return to action on December 4, when they travel down the Main Line to Bryn Mawr College for a tri-meet. Arcadia University will join the Cabrini and Bryn Mawr for the 6:00 p.m. event.
