BRYN MAWR, Pa. – The Cabrini swim teams made the short trip down the Main Line tonight, as they visited Bryn Mawr College for a tri-meet with Arcadia University. The Blue and White women fell to Bryn Mawr 107-92 and Arcadia 115-84, while the men suffered a narrow 80-78 loss to Arcadia.
Freshman
Christina Melchiorre paced the Cabrini women with a pair of victories. The rookie claimed victory in the 200 yard freestyle in 2:04.04 and the 500 yard freestyle in 5:37.28. Senior
Breaghann Smith added a victory in the 1,000 yard freestyle, with a time of 12:03.01.
Junior Morgan Griffitn placed second in the 50 yard freestyle, reaching the wall in 26.77 seconds, while senior
Courtney Good finished second in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:36.96. Freshman
Allie Stein placed third in the 1,000 yard freestyle in 12:45.30, one position ahead of senior
Elyse Phillips.
Griffin, Phillips, Good and Melchiorre teamed to close the night with a second place finish in the 200 yard freestyle relay, posting a time of 1:48.91.
On the men's side, rookie
Todd Walker continued his record setting season. Walker claimed victory in the 1,000 yard freestyle with a school record time of 11:16.92, slicing nearly 12 seconds off the previous record. The freshman added a second place finish in the 500 yard freestyle in 5:27.26.
Fellow freshman
Hassan David Goines Jr. tallied a pair of wins, taking the 50 yard freestyle in 23.48 and the 100 yard freestyle in 52.52. Senior
Tim McCann added a trio of second place finishes in the 1,000 yard freestyle (11:52.20), 200 yard individual medley (2:26.09) and 200 yard breaststroke (2:44.99).
Junior
Scott Hunt also tallied a trio of top finishes, placing second in the 200 yard backstroke (2:27.36) and third in the 200 yard freestyle (2:13.52) and 200 breaststroke (3:03.70).
Prior to the action, all three teams joined Bryn Mawr's Student Athletic Association for its fourth annual "Owls Fight for a Cure" Relay Challenge. The relay challenged involved the swimmers, along with Bryn Mawr student, faculty and staff to raise money for breast cancer research and treatment.
The Cavaliers will return to the pool on Friday, when they host Penn State Altoona. The meet will also mark the final home appearance for Cabrini's five seniors,
Lauren Ciccariello, Good, McCann, Phillips and Smith. The action is slated for 3:00 p.m. at the Dixon Center Pool.
