Box Score

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The early season struggles for the Cabrini women's lacrosse team continued tonight as the Cavaliers suffered a 17-9 loss at Swarthmore College.  The loss drops the Blue and White to 0-5 on the season.  Sophomore Melissa Scanzano matched a career high with five goals on the night, her second five goal outing the season.

The Garnet jumped out to an early lead, as it posted game's first five goals in less than nine minutes of action.  Scanzano's unassisted tally with 18:41 to play broke Swarthmore's scoring streak.  Swarthmore extended is lead to 8-1 before freshman Katie Lasater scored the first of her two goals with 2:18 to play before the break.  Swarthmore added a tally with six seconds to play in the half, taking a 9-2 advantage into halftime.

The lead grew to 12-2 as the Garnet opened the second half with three goals in just over two minutes.  Scanzano's second unassisted goal of the game again halted Swarthmore's momentum at the 26:02 mark, but the Garnet responded with a pair of tallies, extending its advantage to 14-3 with 23:17 to play.

The Cavaliers' offense cut the deficit back to 14-7 midway through the half after four consecutive goals, the final two coming nine seconds apart.  Scanzano returned to the net twice, while Lasater and sophomore Lacie Doubet notched the score sheet.  Following a Swarthmore goal, freshman Nathalie Basunga's shot found the back of the net for her fifth career score.  The Garnet added two more goals before Scanzano closed the scoring with 2:28 to play.

Basunga led the Cavaliers with six of the club's 11 draw controls, while junior Bree Thompson forced two turnovers.  Junior goaltender Janel Folkomer recorded 10 saves and a team-high four ground balls.

Lizzie Kolln led the Garnet (5-1) with four goals and an assist, while Nicole Vanchieri and Corinne Sommi recorded two goals and two helpers each.

The Blue and White look to find its winning formula on Saturday as the team opens conference play with a trip to Baltimore to face Notre Dame (Md.) University.  Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m.
