RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini women's lacrosse team improved to 2-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference after today's 16-0 win over the visiting Cedar Crest College Falcons. The 2-5 Cavaliers scored early and often as 10 Cabrini players found the back of the net.
Freshman
Nathalie Basunga led the charge with two goals and three assists, while fellow rookie
Katie Lasater added three goals. Sophomore
Melissa Scanzano tallied two goals and two helpers. Senior
Christina Pasquariello and sophomore
Lacie Doubet recorded three points each, on two goals and an assist.
Pasquariello got the Blue and White off an a good foot as the senior converted a Scanzano pass into the game's first goal, less than two minutes into play. Scanzano controlled the subsequent draw and broke straight for the net, doubling Cabrini's lead in 12 seconds. Doubet repeated the play on the next draw, scooping the ball and sprinting to the goal for her 11th of the season.
Less than a minute later, Scanzano found Lasater for the rookie's first of the day. Lasater doubled her output 61 seconds later after controlling a pass from Doubet. Pasquariello extended Cabrini's lead to 6-0 at the 25:20 mark when she converted a Basunga pass.
Junior
Bree Thompson scored her fifth goal of the season with 22:41 to play before the half. Doubet's second of the day came with 20:24 left in the half, just over a minute before Basunga's first tally of the afternoon. Lasater completed her hat trick at the 18:53 mark, while Basunga's second of the day can with 16:22 to play before the half. Freshman
Krista Hoffman recorded her first career goal with 1:51 left in the first half, sending Cabrini into the break with a 12-0 advantage.
Junior
Ali May extended the lead to 13-0 just over 10 minutes into the second period with her second goal of 2013. Scanzanoe added her team-leading 17th goal of the year with 14:49 to play. Freshmen
Grace Capuzzi and sophomore
Megan Decker joined Hoffman with their first career goals in the game's final minutes.
Thompson scooped eight of the Blue and White's 56 ground balls and matched Decker with four caused turnovers. Scanzano won a game-high four draw controls.
Junior goaltender
Janel Folkomer posted her second career shutout with three saves.
The Cavaliers will step out of conference play tomorrow as they welcome the Alvernia University Crusader to Edith Robb Dixon Field. Game time is slated for 4:00 p.m.
