RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini College women's lacrosse team captured its third consecutive game today, topping the Alvernia University Crusaders 17-9 at Edith Robb Dixon Field. The non-conference win improves the Cavaliers to 3-5 on the season. The Blue and White has outscored its opponents 51-15 during its three game win streak.
Six players accounted for Cabrini's scoring, led by sophomore
Lacie Doubet, who tallied six points including a season-high with five goals. Fellow sophomore
Melissa Scanzano and freshmen
Katie Lasater and
Nathalie Basunga each recorded four points on the win. Lasater posted four goal, while Scanzano and Basunga added three each.
The Cavaliers jumped out to an early lead as Lasater opened the scoring just 31 seconds into play. The rookie doubles the Blue and White advantage with her second goal of the day just under three minutes into the game. The Crusaders got a goal back at the 26:29 mark, but Doubet's first of the game came with 25:08 left in the opening half.
Alvernia tallied a pair of to tie the score at three with 16:55 left in the half. Twenty-three seconds later, Doubet put the Cavaliers back in the lead with an unassisted goal. The sophomore added a third goal at the 11:24 mark, re-establishing the Blue and White's two goal cushion. The Crusaders cut the lead back to 5-4 with just under 10 minutes left in the half, but junior
Bree Thompson found Basunga for the rookie's 12th goal of the season. After 30 minutes, the Cavaliers held a slim 6-4 lead.
Cabrini blew the game open in the first few minutes of the second half, scoring eight unanswered goals in 11 minutes. Doubet won the second half draw control and took the ball straight to goal, scoring her fourth of the day just 13 secodns into the half. Just over a minute into the half, Scanzano finished a free position shot. At the 28:06 mark, Doubet found Lasater to complete the rookie's hat trick.

Christina Pasquariello added unassisted goals, as the Blue and White extended its lead to 14-4 with 19:06 left in the game.
The Crusaders stopped the run with a goal midway through the second half, but Cabrini responded with goals by Scanzano and Basunga, extending their lead to 16-5 with 13:09 on the clock. Alvernia cut into the lead with four consecutive goals before junior
Suz Gennaro tallied her first goal of the season.
The Cavaliers fired a season high 51 shots on the day, including 11 each by Basunga, Lasater and Doubet. Thompson and Scanzano shared game-high honors with six ground balls each, while Scanzano and Doubet secured four draw controls each. Basunga, Doubet and Scanzano also recorded three forced turnovers each.
Junior goaltender
Janel Folkomer recorded 10 saves to secure the victory.
Senior Allison Bainbridge and junior Hannah Dorsch led Alvernia (3-4-1) with four points each, on three goals and one assist. Senior netminder Victoria Kearn posted 16 saves in the loss.
Cabrini will return to Colonial States Athletic Conference action on Thursday, April 4, when it travels to Gwynedd-Mercy College (2-4, 1-0 CSAC). The Cavaliers and Griffins will meet under the lights at the GMC Athletic Conference, as start time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
