ROSEMONT, Pa. – The Cabrini women's lacrosse team extended its win streak to nine games and completed the program's 10th perfect conference schedule with today's 19-1 win at Rosemont College. After dropping its first five games, the Blue and White has reeled off nine consecutive victories, including all eight in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
The victory also gives the Cavaliers home field advantage in the upcoming CSAC Tournament, as well as a bye into the semifinal round on May 1.
Freshman
Katie Lasater matched a career high with six goals on the day, while sophomore
Melissa Scanzano and fellow rookie
Nathalie Basunga matched Lasater's six points. Scanzano paired four goals with two assists, while Basunga posted three goals and three helpers.
The Cavaliers wasted no time getting on the board as Lasater made her mark on the game in the opening minutes. The rookie opened the scoring just 14 seconds into the game. Exactly three minutes later, Lasater doubled the lead then extended it to 3-0, completing her hat trick less than four minutes into the game.
Sophomore
Lacie Doubet scored her 36th goal of the season at the 23:14 mark. Senior
Christina Pasquariello extended the lead to 6-0 with goals at the 20:36 and 12:36 marks. Nine seconds later, Basunga controlled the ensuing draw and went straight to the net for her first score of the afternoon.
Pasquariello played the facilitator on the next two goals, as the senior assisted on goals by Lasater and Basunga, as the Blue and White built a 9-0 lead just 12 minutes into the game. Scanzano added to the lead at the 13:50 mark with her first of the day. Rosemont's goal came with 4:41 to play in the half, cutting Cabrini's lead to 10-1 at the half.
The Blue and White again struck quickly to open the half, as Scanzano score just 20 seconds after the opening whistle. Sophomore Sara Carzo recorded her 50th career point at the 25:12 mark with her 12th tally of the year. Scanzano's second of the half came with 21:20 to play, her third unassisted goal of the game.
Basunga recorded two of her three assists over the next three minutes, as the freshman found Lasater and Carzo for goals, extending Cabrini's lead to 15-1. Basunga then completed her hat trick with 16:52 left in the game. Lasater's career day came to a close with 15:45 on the clock, as the rookie notched her 41st goal of the season.
Sophomore
Karlie Gruccio scored her fourth career goal with 4:30 on the clock, while Scanzano closed the scoring at the 2:45 mark, off a pass from junior
Samantha LaMaina, the junior's first career point.
Basunga controlled a career high 11 draws, while Carzo scooped a game high five ground balls. Doubet and sophomore
Megan Decker caused two Rosemont miscues each. Junior goaltender
Janel Folkomer stopped four shots to secure her 26th career victory.
Freshman goaltender Andrea Dossantos recorded 21 saves for the Ravens (0-13, 0-8 CSAC). Nymira Nelson posted Rosemont's lone goal.
The Cavaliers will close the regular season with a pair of road non-conference games. The Blue and White will visit Widener University on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. before facing No. 9 The College of New Jersey on Thursday.
