Women's Lacrosse Extends Win Streak to Five Games

Box Score

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini women's team evened its record at 5-5 with today's 19-5 win over the visiting Marywood University Pacers.  The club's fifth consecutive victory also improved the Blue and White to 4-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.  The Cavaliers have outscored their opponents 86-25 during their current five game win streak.

Sophomore Lacie Doubet led the Cavaliers with a season high seven points on four goals and three assists.  Freshman Katie Lasater matched Doubet's four goals, while fellow rookie Nathalie Basunga added three goals and three helpers.  Sophomore Melissa Scanzano tallied her fourth hat trick of the season.

The Pacers opened the scoring 40 seconds into the action before the Cavaliers took over.  Senior Christina Pasquariello's free position shot tied the score just over a minute later.  Scanzano's first of the day came at the 15:58 mark.  Fourteen seconds later, Basunga controlled the draw and found Pasquariello for her second of the day.

The Blue and White put some distance between itself and the Pacers during a 2:37 span of the first half, in which the Cavaliers tallied six goals, including three in 33 seconds.  Basunga tallied her first of the day with 11:11 left in the half.  Less than 50 seconds later, Lasater got into the scoring column.

Basunga corralled the subsequent draw and headed straight to the goal, adding to Cabrini's lead 23 seconds after Lasater's goal.  Basunga repeated the feat on the next draw, this time finding junior Bree Thompson for the goal.  Doubet's first of the afternoon closed the spurt at the 8:34 mark.  The goal also marked the 100th career point for the sophomore.

Goals by Basunga and Lasater in the final minutes of the first half closed Cabrini's run of 11 unanswered goals.  Doubet's free position goal with 1:13 on the clock gave the Cavaliers a 12-2 lead at the half.

The sophomore opened the second half with another free position goal less than 90 seconds into the period.  Scanzano posted Cabrini's sixth free position goal of the game at the 25:05 mark.  After a Marywood goal, Lasater scored her 29th of the season with just under 20 minutes on the clock. Doubet recorded her final goal of the day with 16:39 to play.

With 9:46 to play, junior Karlie Gruccio scored her second of the season as she scooped a loose ball in front of the goal into the back of the net.  Scanzano completed her hat trick with 8:18 to play, while junior Suz Gennaro added her second of 2013 on a free position shot with 1:22 to play.

Scanzano led the team with six ground balls and a career high seven caused turnovers.  Basunga controlled a game high five draws on the day.  Junior goaltender Janel Folkomer recorded five saves for her 22nd career win.

Junior Kimberly Commisso led the Pacers (2-7, 2-2 CSAC) with four goals.

The Cavaliers will travel to Aston, Pa. on Tuesday to visit the Neumann University Knights (11-1, 5-0).  Game time is slated for 4:00 p.m.
