NCAA Tournament Bracket
SALISBURY, Md. – The Cabrini women's lacrosse season came to an end tonight, as the Blue and White suffered 21-1 loss at No. 2 Salisbury University in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Cavaliers end the 2013 campaign with an overall record of 11-8.
Tonight's loss also closes the careers of seniors
Christina Pasquariello and
Kaitlyn Smith. The ladies appeared in a combined 125 games. Pasquariello totaled 151 career points, including 98 goals and 53 assists.
On the defensive side, Smith scooped 59 ground balls and caused 21 career turnovers. The duo also led the Blue and White to a four year conference record of 29-3 and raised three CSAC championship trophies.
The Cavaliers fell behind early as the Seagulls imposed their will on both sides of the field. Salisbury opened the scoring just over three minutes into play and never looked back.
Freshman
Nathalie Basunga netted Cabrini's lone goal, her 45th of the season with 3:41 left in the first half. The rookie also claimed a game high nine draw controls.
Juniors
Erin McLaughlin,
Bree Thompson and
Suz Gennaro each forced a turnover, while Thompson scooped two ground balls. Junior goaltender
Janel Folkomer recorded four saves in the loss.
Lauren Feusahrens, Kate Bollhorst and Bethany Baer recorded four points each for the Seagulls (18-0), combining for seven goals and five assists.
Salisbury will advance to Saturday's second round, where it will face Christopher Newport who topped Sewanee 23-6.
Head coach
Jackie Neary and the Cavaliers posted another successful season, winning the program's 12th CSAC championship in the program's 17-year history.
