RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini women's soccer team remained perfect in Colonial States Athletic Conference play with today's 3-0 win over the visiting Marywood University Pacers. The Cavaliers' fifth consecutive win improved the club to 7-6 overall and 6-0 in the CSAC.
The match marked the program's annual Think Pink game to help promote the fight against breast cancer. The Cavaliers wore pink warm-up shirts and pink socks for the match. The t-shirt was available for purchase and the team held a 50/50 raffle, with all proceeds going to charity.
The Blue and White jumped out to an early lead just 77 seconds into the action, as junior
Meghan Martin's shot from the baseline found the back of the net for her fifth tally of the season.
The first half scoring options were limited, as the clubs combined for just six shots, three on goal, and one corner kick in the opening 45 minutes of action.
Cabrini added to its lead in the 57th minute when senior
Melissa Scanzano's cross found junior
Dana Peterson in the Marywood penalty area. Peterson collected the pass and put it in the net to join Martin with five goals on the season.
The Cavaliers put the match away in the 69th minute, as Martin's pass found freshman
Taylor Tralie for the rookie's third career goal.
Freshman goaltender
Alivia Dietsch posted three saves to earn her fourth shutout of the season.
The Blue and White recorded 12 shots to go with the game's only two corner kicks. Martin fired four shots, one more than fellow junior
Devon Miller.
Junior Kimberly Vogan took five of Marywood's six shots, including all three attempts on net. Senior goaltender Emily Osbourne made three saves for the Pacers (3-9, 3-2 CSAC).
Cabrini will return to action on Wednesday, as it visits Gwynedd Mercy (8-4, 6-0 CSAC) in a battle of conference unbeatens. With just a handful of conference matches remaining, the winner will have the inside track for top seed in the upcoming postseason tournament. The action gets underway at 6:00 p.m. in Gwynedd Valley, Pa.
