SCRANTON, Pa. - The Cabrini men's and women's swim teams kicked off their 2014-15 seasons today, splitting a tri-meet at the University of Scranton. The Cavaliers women topped FDU-College at Florham 78-34 and fell to Scranton 98-23. The Blue and White men earned a 85-27 victory over FDU and lost to Scranton 86-35.
Sophomore
Christina Melchiorre led the way for the women's team, scoring a victory in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:40.69. Melchiorre also placed second in the 200 yard freestyle and joined senior
Morgan Griffith, junior
Meagan Kalinoski and freshman
Casey Merrill for a second place finish in the 200 yard medley relay.
Senior
Morgan Griffith posted a third place finishes in the 100 yard freestyle and the 100 yard backstroke. Sophomores
Allie Stein and
Moira Prior recorded third place finishes in the 1,000 yard freestyle and 100 yard breaststroke, respectively. Freshman
DeLisa Portland placed third in the 100 yard butterfly, while Merrill and Kalinoski placed second and third in the 200 yard individual medley.
On the men's side, sophomore
Todd Walker led the way for the Cavaliers as he finished first in the 200 yard backstroke. Walker also finished second in the 1,000 yard freestyle and, along with freshmen
Brian Jordan,
Nicholas Vivian and
Rich Giuliani, finished third in the 200 yard medley relay.
Giuliani recorded a time of 51.42 to place second in the 100 yard freestyle and finished second in the 100 yard backstroke, while sophomore
Bobby Schmidt placed third overall with a time of 2:02.51 in the 200 yard freestyle.
Schmidt, Giuliani and Walker teamed with freshman
Ryan Hagan to close the meet with a score a victory in the 200 yard freestyle relay.
The Blue and White is back in action Friday when they welcome the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford to the Dixon Center. The action is set to begin at 4:30 p.m.
