IMMACULATA, Pa. – It took longer than normal, but in the end the Cabrini field hockey team extended its win streak to 10 games with today's 2-1 overtime win at Immaculata. With the win the Cavaliers improve to 11-3 overall and a perfect 6-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
The win sets up Wednesday's game between the Cavaliers and Gwynedd Mercy. Though both have already clinched berths in the 2014 CSAC Tournament, the two 6-0 clubs will play for the tournament's top seed and home field.
Though Cabrini built a three shot advantage in the first half and earned three more penalty corners, the Cavaliers and Mighty Macy played to a scoreless tie after 35 minutes.
Junior
Jen Webb finally broke through in the 50th minute, as she deflected a pass from fellow junior
Kerry Anne Farrell in the net for her 10th goal of the season.
Immaculata took advantage of a Cabrini green card in the 65th minute to even the score at 1-1, as Ashley O'Donnell found Tiffany Lockfield off a penalty corner.
The Blue and White had several chances in the final minutes of regulation to even the score, including a shot by senior
Tori Canelli with less than 30 seconds to play, but it wasn't to be as the teams headed to overtime.
Immaculata recorded the first scoring chance in overtime, but freshman
Taylor Bookman was up to the task, recording her fourth save of the afternoon.
Cabrini ended the game in the 72nd minute of play as Farrell's diving shot beat Mighty Mac goaltender Sarah Pasternak, sending the Blue and White to victory. The goal marked the junior's 24th tally and eighth game winner of the season.
