LA PLUME, Pa. – The Cabrini women's soccer team extended its win streak to nine matches today, as the Cavaliers scored a 4-0 win at Keystone College. The victory improved the Blue and White to 11-6 overall and a perfect 10-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
With one game remaining in the regular season, Thursday's home match against Notre Dame (Md.), the Cavaliers have clinched a berth in the 2014 CSAC Tournament and hold the inside track for home field advantage throughout the tournament.
Today's victory was a complete team effort as 22 cavaliers saw significant action, with nine players recording at least one shot. Junior
Meghan Martin led the way with five shots, while senior
Melissa Scanzano and freshman
Lisette Hrapmann added four each.
While four players notched the scoring column, freshman goaltender
Alivia Dietsch and sophomore
Marissa Jenkins recorded two saves each to combine for Cabrini's seventh shutout of the season.
Junior
Dana Peterson put the Blue and White on the board in the 15th minute with a 25 yard blast to the far post. Peterson's team leading ninth goal of the year marked the sixth consecutive match in which the junior has scored a goal.
Despite outshooting the Giants 14-4 in the opening 45 minutes, the Cavaliers carried a slim 1-0 lead into the halftime break. Cabrini used two goals in just over two minutes in the second half to putt away.
In the 59th minute, junior
Kaitlyn Cooper found classmate
Meghan Martin, who blasted a shot from about 10 yard out for her eighth goal of the campaign.
Just over two minutes later junior
Devon Miller's pass sprung freshman
Taylor Tralie for a breakaway goal, the rookie's fifth of the year.
Scanzano closed the match with her fourth goal of the year, as a pass from junior
Kerri Hinkelmon sent the senior in for a breakaway from midfield.
The Cavaliers will return to action on Thursday, as they host The Gators (2-11, 0-8 CSAC) at 4:00 p.m. A victory would give the Blue and White its first perfect CSAC slate since 1999.
Thursday's action will also mark the final regular season home appearance for Cabrini's five seniors,
Emily Dayton,
Danielle Kane,
Gabby Meck, Scanzano and
Kaitlin Zisa.
