Complete ResultsSWARTHMORE, Pa. – The men's and women's swimming teams competed in the Swarthmore Invitational tonight. After day one, the men find themselves third out of six teams, while the women's team stands third out of seven.
Senior
Morgan Griffith, sophomore
Christina Melchiorre and freshmen
Brooke Hagan and
Casey Merrill got the Cavaliers off to a strong start placing second in the 200 yard freestyle relay. Melchiorre, Merrill, Griffith and sophomore
Moira Prior placed third in the 400 yard medley relay in 4:26.18.
Melchiorre and Griffith placed second and fourth out of 33 swimmers in the 50 yard freestyle. Melchiorre completed the race in 25.45, while Griffith reached the wall in 25.89.
Merrill placed sixth out of 30 swimmers in the 500 yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 5:41.19. Hagan placed eleventh and completed the 500 yard freestyle in 5:48.66.
Sophomores
Todd Walker and
Hassan David Goines Jr. teamed up with freshmen
Nicholas Vivian and
Rich Giuliani in the 400 medley relay, placing third out of eight teams in 3:49.57.
Vivian and junior
Christopher Ryan finished ninth and tenth, respectively, in the 200 yard individual medley finishing in 2:14.63 and 2:16.59.
Freshman
Andrew Michael Stasis competed in the 500 yard freestyle and placed 12th out of 21 swimmers in 5:26.91. Hagan placed 19th out of 39 swimmmers in the 50 yard freestyle, while finishing with a time of 24.09.
The Cavaliers will return to action tomorrow morning for day two of the Swarthmore Invitational. The meet is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.
