RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini men's soccer team will make its third consecutive appearance in the CSAC Tournament semifinal round after tonight's 2-0 win over Rosemont College. The Cavaliers first round victory improved the club to 13-6 on the season.
The next step in Cabrini's tournament run will come on Thursday, as it visits the tournament's number two seed Marywood University (9-4-3, 7-2 CSAC).
The Blue and White scored a solid team victory tonight, outshooting the Ravens 22-5. Eight Cavaliers accounted for the shots, led by sophomore
A.J. Bishop's eight attempts, including five on goal. Senior
Sean Neary, sophomore
Bobby Kane and freshman
Joe Fiore added three shots each.
Cabrini's defensive effort held the Ravens to just one shot on goal and sophomore goaltender
C.J. Serratore was there to make the save.
The Cavaliers jumped on the scoreboard in the 24th minute, as Bishop beat a defender on the baseline and found Kane streaking to the net for his seventh tally of the season.
Cabrini carried that lead through halftime but, despite controlling much of the game's flow, the club could not find the right scoring combination.
Bishop took that into his own hands in the 90th minute, as he created a penalty kick opportunity and completed the play for his 13th goal of the year.
In tonight's other first round match, Centenary (12-6-1, 5-4 CSAC) scored a 3-2 overtime win at Gwynedd Mercy (7-12, 5-4 CSAC). The Cyclones will visit top seed Neumann (9-8-1, 9-0 CSAC) in Thursday's semifinal round.
A 90th minute set piece goal was the only ball to find the back of the net in Cabrini's 1-0 loss at Marywood on October 11. The Pacers outshot the Blue and White 12-8, including a 6-2 advantage in the second half, and earned five corner kicks to Cabrini's one.
