Women's Swimming Makes History at ECAC Championships

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Cabrini College women's swim team made its mark at the 2014 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships today at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.

The quartet of seniors Courtney Good and Breaghann Smith, junior Morgan Griffith and freshman Christina Melchiorre placed eighth in the finals of the 200 yard freestyle relay.  The team posted a time of 1:42.78.

The event marked the first time members of Cabrini's swim team competed in the ECAC Championships.  The team was the only Division III team in the event, holding its own against the likes of Columbia, Marist and Pitt among others.

In the day's preliminary heats, Griffith and Melchiorre placed 25th and 26, respectively in the 50 yard freestyle.  Griffith reached the wall in 25.30, just 0.32 seconds ahead of Melchiorre.

After the fist day of the three day event, the Cavaliers are in 12th place out of 15 teams.

Griffith will return to the pool on Saturday to compete in the 100 yard backstroke, while Melchiorre will swim in Sunday's 100 yard freestyle.
