RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini women's lacrosse team suffered a 15-10 loss to Ursinus College today at Edith Robb Dixon Field, dropping it to 0-2 on the young season. Five Cavaliers found the back of the net, led by junior
Lacie Doubet's four goals, including the 100th of her career. Fellow junior
Melissa Scanzano added four points, pairing two goals and two assists. Freshman
Sasha Wozniak netted a pair of goals and an assist.
The Blue and White fell behind early, as Ursinus netted the game's first two goals. Scanzano put Cabrini on the board with an unassisted goal with 20 minutes left in the half. The Bears grabbed control of the game with five unanswered goals over the next seven minutes, putting the Cavaliers in a 7-1 hole with 13 minutes left in the opening half.
Wozniak netted back-to back goals to cut the deficit to 7-3, but Ursinus responded with a pair of its own. Doubet's first of the day came with just over four minutes left in the half, but again the Bears had an answer. Senior
Bree Thompson and freshman Jess Breuning tallied goals in the final 2:16 of the half, sending the teams into the break with Ursinus leading 10-6.
Doubet's second tally of the day came in the opening minutes of the second half, but again the Bears responded quickly. Ursinus recorded the game's next four goals, extending its lead to 14-7 with 10:31 to play. Scanzano found Doubet for a goal with 9:24 left to snap the Bears' run. Ursinus added another goal before Scanzano and Doubet closed eh game with unassisted tallies.
Doubet and Scanzano fired a team high seven shots each, while Wozniak attempted six. Thompson scooped a game high seven ground balls, one more than Wozniak. Scanzano and Thompson also accounted for four of Cabrini's six caused turnovers on the day.
Freshman Jayme Verman led the Bears (2-1) with seven points on two goals and five assists. Senior Amber Moyer and junior Kitty Dawson added three goals each.
Cabrini will look to regroup quickly, as it welcomes Widener University (0-1) to Edith Robb Dixon Field on Saturday. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
