RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini women's lacrosse team improved to 4-2 on the season with its fourth consecutive victory today, topping Gwynedd Mercy University 17-3 at a snowy Edith Robb Dixon Field. The victory also improves the Blue and White to 3-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
Six different Cavaliers found the back of the net in the win, led by junior
Melissa Scanzano with a career high seven points. The junior tallied four goals on the day, becoming the second Cavalier this season to record her 100th career goal, joining classmate
Lacie Doubet.
Doubet and senior
Sarah Means added five points each in the win. Doubet's points came in a four goal performance, while Means paired two goals with three assists. Freshman
Sasha Wozniak, senior
Bree Thompson and sophomore
Caitlyn Poole added three points each.
The Cavaliers took control of the game from the opening draw, as Wozniak tallied two goals in the opening three minutes of the game. Scanzano then added a pair of goals, extending the lead to 4-0 less than five minutes into the game.
Freshman
Allie Vallen found Thompson for her first goal of the night at the 22:01 mark. Less than two minutes later, Doubet recorded a pair of goals. Scanzano completed her hat trick with 18:56 left in the half. Thompson's second goal came just 14 seconds later on a woman-up opportunity.
Scanzano's 100th goal came as an unassisted tally with 14:28 left in the opening half, extending the Blue and White lead to 10-0. The junior then found Doubet at the 13 minute mark to complete her scoring for the game.
Means, Thompson and Poole added goals in the final 7:33 of the first half, as Cabrini carried a commanding 13-1 lead into the halftime break.
Doubet recorded her fourth goal of the game with 21:43 on the clock, while Poole and Means posted their second goals in the game's final minutes.
Junior
Megan Decker scooped a game high six ground balls, while Thompson controlled three draws. Junior
Taylor Carroll and freshman Jess Breuning forced three Gwynedd Mercy turnovers each. Goaltenders
Janel Folkomer and
Megan Barlow combined for two saves in the victory.
Junior Kelsey Yori tallied all three goals for the Griffins (3-5, 1-1 CSAC) and fired six of the team's seven shots.
The Blue and White will step out of conference action on Thursday as the Swarthmore Garnet visit Edith Robb Dixon Field. Game time is scheduled for 6:000 p.m.
