Women's Lacrosse Downs Neumann 17-9

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini women's lacrosse team extended its win streak to nine games and solidified its hold in first place in the Colonial States Athletic Conference with today's 17-9 victory over the visiting Neumann University Knights.  The victory improves the Blue and White to 9-2 overall and 7-0 in the CSAC with one conference game remaining.

Junior Melissa Scanzano led the Cavaliers with six points, matching a season high with five goals.  Freshman Sasha Wozniak added five goals in just 30 minutes of action.  Junior Lacie Doubet paired two goals and two assists, while seniors Sarah Means and Bree Thompson added two goals each.

Thompson scooped a game high eight ground balls, two more than freshman Allie Vallen.  Scanzano, Wozniak, senior Suz Gennaro and freshman Jessica Breuning forced two Neumann turnovers each, while Scanzano controlled six draws.

Senior Janel Folkomer earned the victory between Cabrini's pipes after recording six saves.

Neumann opened the scoring just over three minutes into the game.  Three minutes later, the Cavaliers took control of the game, scoring 15 of the game's next 16 games.  Wozniak's first tally evened the score with 23:15 left in the half.  The Blue and White netted four more goals, including two by Wozniak, over the next five minutes to take a 5-1 lead.

A Scanzano tally, two by Means and Wozniak's third extended the lead to 8-1 with just under 12 minutes left in the half.  A Neumann goal with 9:36 left in the period momentarily broke Cabrini's momentum but 2:31 later, Scanzano completed her hat trick.  

The Cavaliers closed the half with a flurry, scoring five goals in the final five minutes.  Means found Doubet for a woman-up goal before Wozniak netted a pair of woman-down goals.  Thompson added her two goals in the final 101 seconds to send Cabrini into the half with a 14-2 lead.

Vallen opened the second half with goal before Neumann began to mount its comeback.  The Knights netted three unanswered goals to cut Cabrini's lead to 15-5.  Scanzano added a pair of goals, sandwiching a Neumann goals to keep the Knights at bay.  

Gabby Murray and Mandy Fedak led Neumann (8-4, 4-1 CSAC) tallied two goals each for the Knights.

The Blue and White will return to action on Tuesday, when its travels to Scranton, Pa. to face the University of Scranton (2-7, 1-3, Landmark).   Game time is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
