Box Score SCRANTON, Pa. – The Cabrini women's lacrosse team saw its nine game win streak come to an end today, as the Cavaliers suffered a 13-11 loss at the University of Scranton. The Blue and White falls to 9-3 overall with their first defeat since March 10.
Junior
Melissa Scanzano paced the Cavaliers with three goals and two assists. Fellow junior
Lacie Doubet added three goals, while freshman
Allie Vallen tallied a pair of scores.
Scanzano also won a team high four draws, while senior Suz Genarro scooped four ground balls and sophomore
Megan Decker caused four turnovers. Senior goaltender
Janel Folkomer recorded eight saves in the loss.
Cabrini fell behind early, as Scranton netted a pair of goals in the opening 102 seconds. The Cavaliers found their footing a few minutes later, as goals by Scanzano and Wozniak evened the score with 24:07 to play.
Scranton regained a slim lead before senior
Bree Thompson tied the score at three. The Royals answered with four consecutive goals to build a 7-3 lead. Scanzano's second goals of the night broke the Scranton run. The Royals added two more goals before the half before the Blue and White notched the final goal of the period, as Scanzano found Doubet with 55 seconds in the half to cut Cabrini's deficit to 9-5.
The Cavaliers opened the second half with a flurry, netting three unanswered goals. Freshman
Jessica Breuning, Scanzano and Doubet found the back of the net to bring Cabrini back to within 9-8. The Royals posted the game's next three goals, extending its lead back to four goals with 16:23 to play.
The Blue and White wasted little time getting those three goals back, as a Doubet goal and two from Vallen cut the deficit back to one at 12-11 with 12:25 to play. Cabrini failed to convert a free position opportunity, which would have tied the game before Scranton scored an insurance goal with 7:49 to play.
The Cavaliers have little time to regroup as they travel to Glassboro, N.J. on Thursday to face Rowan University (8-4, 2-2 NJAC). Game time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
