Women's Lacrosse Extends Win Streak to 8 with 19-6 Victory

Box Score

IMMACULATA, Pa. - The Cabrini women's lacrosse team extended its win streak to eight games with today's 19-6 win at Immaculata.  The victory improves the Cavaliers to 8-2 overall and 6-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.

Freshman Sasha Wozniak matched a career high with eight points on the day, including five goals and three assists.  Junior Lacie Doubet added seven points and matched a season high with five goals, while fellow junior Melissa Scanzano paired four goals and two helpers.

Scanzano and junior Tori Canelli scooped four ground balls each, while Scanzano and Wozniak combined for 11 of Cabrini's 16 draw controls.  Senior Bree Thompson tallied four caused turnovers, while junior Megan Decker forced three Mighty Mac miscues.

Senior Janel Folkomer and freshman Megan Barlow combined for five saves between the pipes to secure the Blue and White victory.

The Cavaliers jumped out to an early lead as Wozniak found the back of the net just 37 seconds into the game.  Scanzano and Doubet added unassisted goals, as Cabrini extended its lead to 3-0 in the first five minutes.   The Mighty Macs took advantage of a Cabrini yellow card to score a woman-up goal with 17:34 left in the half.

Wozniak's second goal midway through the half rebuilt the three goal lead, but consecutive Immaculata tallies cut the Blue and White advantage to 4-3 with 11 minutes to play in the half.  Thirty seconds later, the Cavaliers began to put the game out of reach.

Over the next 22 minutes, spanning the first and second halves, Cabrini ran off 13 consecutive goals.  Freshman Allie Vallen began the run with the first of her two goals with 10:30 to play.  Over the next 66 seconds of game action, a Scanzano goal and two by Wozniak extended the lead to 8-3.  The Blue and White added five goals over the final 7:05 of the half to build a 13-3 lead after 30 minutes.

Cabrini continued its scoring streak after the halftime break, as Wozniak closed her scoring less than 90 seconds into the half.  Scanzano closed her scoring with 26:55 to play, while Doubet added two goals to extend the lead to 19-3 with 19:19 on the clock.

Sophomore Caitlyn Poole recorded her fifth goals of the season at the 18:02 mark, while fellow sophomore Kristina Quintiliani added her fourth with 6:27 to play.

After three consecutive road games, Cabrini will return to Edith Robb Dixon Field on Saturday, as it welcomes Neumann University (7-3, 3-0 CSAC), in a rematch of the 2013 CSAC championship game.  Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.

The game will also mark the program's "Go Jen Go" game, benefitting the Go Jen Go Foundation, an organization that raises funds to "provide financial assistance and emotional support" to those battling breast cancer and their families.  The foundation also donates money to other charitable organizations that offer resources to breast cancer patients and research.
