RADNOR, Pa. – After a slow start, the Cabrini men's soccer team found its offense and downed Penn State Brandywine 4-0 in the opening match of the Cabrini Men's Soccer Labor Day Kick-Off Tournament at Edith Robb Dixon Field. The victory sent the Cavaliers into Saturday's tournament championship game where it will face Wesley College.
The Blue and White controlled the run of play in the opening 45 minutes, outshooting the Lions 5-2, but seven first half offsides penalties slowed the Cabrini attack.
The Cavaliers found their stride after the break, dominating the 45 minute period to the tune of a 16-1 advantage in shots. Sophomore
Mohammed Konneh opened the score book in the 59th minute. Less than five minutes later, Cabrini doubled the lead, as sophomore
John Underwood tallied his first career goal off the rebound of a saved penalty kick.
Senior
Sean Neary got into the scoring column in the 71st minute, as his cross bounced off a defender and into the net. Junior
Mike Camacho closed the scoring in the 88th minute as a pass from senior
Shaun Ostrowski sprung Camacho on a breakaway.
Nine of Cabrini's starters tallied at least one shot on the day, as the Blue and White outshot Penn State Brandywine 21-3. Sophomore
A.J. Bishop led the way with four shots, while Underwood and sophomore
Bobby Kane added three each.
Junior goaltender
R.J. Pino notched one save to record his third career shutout.
The Cavaliers will meet Wesley on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the tournament's championship game. The Wolverines scored a 2-0 victory over Shenandoah University in Friday's second match. Shaune Gorman and Danny Ramirez notched goals for Wesley, while Will Mileski tallied two assists.
Penn State Brandywine and Shenandoah will meet in the consolation game, slated to kick off at 12 Noon.
