RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini men's soccer team faced a tough task if it looked to rebound from a disappointing loss on Saturday, as No. 12 Rutgers-Camden paid a visit to Edith Robb Dixon Field on Wednesday night. The Cavaliers were up to the task, as the Blue and White scored a 2-1 win over the Raptors, to improve to 2-1.
While both teams had scoring chances in the early going, it was a four minute stretch of the first half that determined the game. In the 29th minute, a perfectly placed pass from senior
Rey Jimenez found sophomore
Bobby Kane to give the Cavaliers a 1-0 lead and the game's momentum.
Cabrini doubled its lead in the 33rd minute, as junior
Boomer Steigelman's direct kick found sophomore
A.J. Bishop for a two goal lead. Despite earning just one corner kick to Rutgers-Camden's five, the Blue and White outshot its opponent 6-3 in the opening half.
The Raptors looked to turn up the pressure in the second half, but Cabrini was up to the task. Each time Rutgers-Camden looked to mount an attack, a Cavalier was in the right place at the right time. The Raptors finally broke through in the 83rd minute.
The Cavaliers did not record a single corner kick in the second half and was outshot 6-3, but the Blue and White defensive unit held firm. Junior goaltender
R.J. Pino recorded a pair of saves to earn the victory.
Eight Cavaliers accounted for the club's nine shots, led by two from Kane.
The Blue and White will look to ride this momentum into Saturday's annual Battle for Eagle Road. The Cavaliers will cross the street to visit local rival Eastern (2-0) for a 3:30 p.m. tilt.
