Second Half Surge Leads to Women's Basketball Win

SCRANTON, Pa. – After a tightly contested opening half, the Cabrini women's basketball team took control of the game early in the second half to extend its current win streak to six games.

The Cavaliers held on for a 57-50 victory at Marywood University to improve to 12-3 overall and a perfect 6-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.

Four Cavaliers scored in double figures, led by senior Amber Keys, who recorded her ninth double-double of the season with 16 points and 14 rebounds.  The senior added four assists and three blocked shots in the win.

Juniors Kristina Startare and Dana Peterson added 11 points each and combined for six rebounds, five assists and three steals.  Sophomore Tayler Holmes paired 10 points and matched a career high with seven boards.

Both teams struggled in the opening 20 minutes, combining for 16-62 shooting from the floor, including 2-17 from beyond the three point line.

The Blue and White used a 6-0 spurt late in the half to build a 22-17 lead before Marywood cut the lead to 22-20 at the break.

Cabrini found its scoring touch during the halftime break as it opened the second half on a 10-0 run, extending its lead to 32-20.

The cushion expanded to 48-32 after Holmes' jumper capped a 9-0 run with 9:38 to play.  The Pacers responded with an 11-0 run of their own, cutting the Blue and White lead to 48-43 with 2:17 on the clock.

Despite increased pressure from the Pacers, the Cavaliers held on to their lead, forcing a pair of Marywood turnovers and scoring a nine points in the final two minutes of play.

Ashley Murray led the Pacers (8-5, 3-2 CSAC) with 14 points off the bench, all coming in the second half.  Danielle Terranella added 12 points, just three coming in the second half, and a team high eight rebounds.

The Cavaliers will return to the hardwood on Monday, as they host Centenary College (2-11, 1-3 CSAC) in the opening game of the second annual #DoBlue game.  Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m. at Nerney Field House.
