IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Cabrini men's basketball suffered its third consecutive loss today, falling 76-62 at Immaculata University. The loss drops the Cavaliers to 9-9 overall and 6-5 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
The three game losing skid marks the program's first since Jan. 26-31, 2008, when it dropped consecutive games at Alvernia, at Eastern and at home to Gwynedd Mercy.
Senior
Vinny Walls led Cabrini with 17 points, while freshman
Jair Green paired 12 points and five rebounds. Senior
Howard Blake III, sophomore Sean May and freshman
Tyheim Monroe added seven points each.
Both teams tried to grab the game's momentum from the opening tip, as the scoreboard saw three lead changes and two ties in the opening seven minute. While neither team led by more than five points in the first stanza, Monroe's lay-up with 25 seconds left in the period sent the teams into halftime with Cabrini trailing 28-27.
The clubs continued to jockey for the lead as early in the second half, but a 7-0 Immaculata spurt put the Mighty Macs up 44-35 at the 11:46 mark. One minute later, a three point play by May cut the lead back to four points.
The Cavaliers' deficit hovered between 5-7 points before five quick Immaculata points pushed its lead to 11 points with 7:17 to play. The Blue and White again had an answer, as Blake connected on a triple and a pair of free throws to bring Cabrini to within 58-54 with 3:48 to play.
Cabrini would get no closer as the Mighty Macs hit 10-11 from the free throw line in the game's final 2:35.
The Blue and White struggled on the offensive side of the floor today, as its 62 points, 21 made field goals and three made three pointers marked the club's lowest output of the season.
Rodney Duncan led Immaculata (9-8, 7-3 CSAC) with 22 points, while Mamadou Diakite paired 15 points and 15 rebounds.
The Cavaliers will look to rebound on Wednesday when they travel to Aston, Pa. to face the Neumann University Knights (10-7, 7-3 CSAC). Game time is slated for 8 p.m.
