Women's Soccer Plays Gwynedd Mercy to 1-1 Draw

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini and Gwynedd Mercy women's soccer teams played to their fourth draw in their last five meetings today at Edith Robb Dixon Field.  After 110 minutes of end to end action, the Cavaliers and Griffins found themselves tied at 1-1.

Today's match also marked the program's annual Think Pink match.  The team wore special pink warm-up shirts and sock. Additional t-shirts and bracelets were sold during the match, with proceeds being donated to charity.

With today's result, the Blue and White improved to 7-5-3 overall and 7-0-2 in the Colonial States Athletic Department.  Unbeaten in its last 29 CSAC matches, the Cavaliers now stand at 23 points in the league standings with two matches remaining.

Gwynedd Mercy improved to 10-3-3 overall and 8-1-1 in league action.  With one conference match left on their slate, the Griffins remain in first place in the league standings with 25 points.

The Griffins got on the board early, as sophomore Megan Petroski beat two Cabrini defenders before slotting a shot under Blue and White goaltender Alivia Dietsch.

Despite outshooting the Griffins 7-3 in the opening 45 minutes, the Cavaliers could not find the back of the net.

That changed in the 64th minute, when senior Dana Peterson played a long ball into the penalty area.  The ball deflected off a Gwynedd Mercy defender to fellow senior Meghan Martin who found the back of the net for her seventh goal of the season.

The Cavaliers created several chances in the final seconds of regulation, but a corner kick and a pair of shots came up empty.

Cabrini outshot Gwynedd Mercy 6-2 in the extra 20 minutes but could not find the right scoring combination.

The Blue and white kept the pressure on the Griffins, building a 19-9 advantage in shots.  Sophomore Taylor Tralie led Cabrini with six shots, while Martin and fellow senior Kaitlyn Cooper added three each.

Dietsch finished the day with four saves.

Senior Kerri Petroski and Meghan Petroski led the Griffins with three shots each, while senior goaltender Jess Tadley notched five saves.

The Blue and White will hit the road on Tuesday, as it visits Cedar Crest College (4-10-2, 0-9 CSAC) in CSAC action. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. in Allentown.
