RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini women's soccer team defended its home pitch tonight, scoring a 2-0 victory over the visiting Neumann University Knights. With the win, the Cavaliers improved to 3-5-1 overall and 3-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
Senior
Meghan Martin led the Blue and White to its 19th consecutive conference victory with two second half goals, while junior goaltender
Marissa Jenkins posted four saves to secure her 10th career shutout.
The clubs played an even opening half, with the teams combining for just three shots on goal in the opening 45 minutes. The Blue and White also earned three corner kicks but could not find the back of the net.
The Cavaliers turned up their pressure in the second half, firing 15 shots in the period. Martin put Cabrini on the board in the 58th minute, as she collected a rebound from her own shot and put it in the back of the net.
With its one goal cushion, Cabrini continued to push for a second goal. The Cavaliers' patience and passing paid off in the game's final seconds, as sophomore
Taylor Tralie's corner kick found Martin's head with just nine seconds on the clock.
Martin accounted for five of Cabrini's 20 shots on the night, including three of its eight shots on goal. Fellow senior
Dana Peterson added four shots, one more than sophomore
Lisette Hrapmann.
Senior Alexa DeRose tallied five shots for Neumann, while sophomore goaltender Kristen Montgomery recorded six saves.
The Cavaliers will hit the road on Saturday for a big match at Rosemont (4-7, 3-2 CSAC). Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
