ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Cabrini head volleyball coach
Eric Schaefer claimed his 200th victory on the Blue and White sideline tonight, as the Cavaliers scored a 3-0 win at Cedar Crest College.
The 25-17, 25-5, 25-10 triumph improved Cabrini to 15-5 overall and a perfect 6-0 in Colonial States Athletic Conference play.
Sophomore
Nicole Sokolovich led the Cavaliers with 10 kills, seven digs and the match's only block. Seniors
Jen Grenauer and
Christine Ingargiola joined sophomore
Chelsea Jones with five kills each.
Senior
Cassidy Koenig directed the offensive attack to the tune of 30 assists, while junior
Kelly Guarino paired five service aces and six digs. Freshman
Emily Shannon matched Guarino with six digs.
Cabrini got off to a slow start, as Cedar Crest notched the first six points of the match. The Cavaliers clawed their way back into the opening set before using a 13-1 spurt to take control of the set at 19-13.
The Blue and White continued its momentum into the second set, as it scored 15 of the set's first 17 points.
The Falcons built an early lead in the third set before Cabrini tuned a 4-2 deficit into a 15-5 advantage. Seven straight Cavaliers points later in the set put the match away.
In eight plus seasons on the Blue and White bench, Schaefer has led the Cavaliers to unprecendented heights. Schaefer has earned three CSAC Coach of the Year accolades, while leading Cabrini to five of the last six conference titles.
The Blue and White will step out of conference play on Saturday, as it hosts a tri-match featuring Stockton University (18-2) and Franklin & Marshall College (10-8).
The Cavaliers will face Stockton at 11 a.m. and Franklin & Marshall at 3 p.m. The Ospreys and Diplomats will face off at 1 p.m. inside Nerney Field House.
