Men's Soccer Claims CSAC Title with 2-1 Victory over Marywood

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini men's soccer team claimed its first Colonial States Athletic Conference title since 2012 with tonight's 2-1 victory over Marywood University at Edith Robb Dixon Field.

The Cavaliers raised the program's ninth conference championship and improved to 15-2-3 on the year.  This marks the eighth time the Blue and White has reached the 15 victory plateau and first since its 2009 championship season.

With the victory, Cabrini will make its fifth trip to the NCAA Tournament, scheduled to open on November 12.  The Cavaliers must wait until Monday's NCAA Selection Show to learn its postseason fate.  The show will be broadcast on NCAA.com at 1:30p.m.

The Cavaliers jumped to an early lead, as sophomore Paolo Chavarria played a long pass that spring junior Bobby Kane for a breakaway goal in the 16th minute.

Cabrini clung to its 1-0 lead until the 52nd minute, when Chavarria found freshman Jared Irwin outside the penalty area.  The rookie curled a 20 yard shot just inside the far left upper corner for the eventual game-winner.

Ten minutes later, the Pacers got on the board as senior Danny Lopez found junior Matthew Hull, whose shot just crossed the goal line.

Both clubs continued to press for another goal, Cabrini looking to extend its lead and Marywood trying to tie the match.

The Blue and White recorded seven of its 11 second half shots after Marywood's goal, forcing the Pacers' senior goaltender Justine Sunseri to make six of his 12 saves.

Meanwhile, Cabrini's junior netminder C.J. Serratore was called into action for a pair of late save, his only two of the afternoon, to seal the victory.

Chavarria earned Most Valuable Player honors after recording his second and third assists of the season.

Kane recorded six of the Cavaliers' 19 shots on the day, while Irwin and junior A.J. Bishop added four each.

Lopez accounted for five of Marywood's (8-8-3) 12 shots in the loss, including a first half blast that deflected off Serratore's diving hands before finding the post.
