Women's Soccer Tops Gwynedd Mercy for 5th Straight CSAC Title

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini women's soccer team continued its historic championship run, winning its fifth consecutive Colonial States Athletic Conference championship today at Edith Robb Dixon Field.

The Cavaliers scored a 1-0 victory over the Gwynedd Mercy Griffins to raise the program's ninth championship crown.  Cabrini also improved to 11-5-3 on the season and extended its unbeaten streak to 11 matches.

With the win, the Blue and White secures its seventh trip to the NCAA Tournament, scheduled to open on November 13.  The Cavaliers will learn their tournament fate on Monday's NCAA Selection Show, broadcast on NCAA.com at 1 p.m.

As one would expect with the top two defensive clubs in the CSAC, there were few real scoring chances in today's action.  Four of Cabrini's six first half shots came in the opening 20 minutes, while the Griffins' only first
half attempt came after 41 minutes of action.

Both teams turned up the offensive pressure after the halftime break, combining for 11 second half shots and six corner kicks.

With 10 minutes to play, the Cavaliers finally took advantage of a scoring opportunity, as senior Meghan Martin found classmate Kaitlyn Cooper, whose 18 yard blast bounced off the inside of the far right post and into the net for the game's lone goal.

As they have done all season, the Cabrini defense held firm, holding Gwynedd Mercy to just six shots on the day, including one shot in the final 27 minutes of action.

Cooper led the Cavaliers with four shots on the day and was named the game's Most Valuable Player, adding the honor to her CSAC Player of the Year accolade.

Martin and sophomore Taylor Tralie added two shots each for the Blue and White.

Sophomore goaltender Alivia Dietsch stopped both shots she saw, earning her fifth shutout of the year and fourth in her last six matches.

Sophomore Meghan Petroski recorded three of Gwynedd Mercy's six shots in the loss, while senior goaltender Jess Tadly posted five saves for the Griffins (12-4-3).
